Department of Mathematics and Statistics

Georgetown University’s Department of Mathematics & Statistics promotes research in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics. Our faculty prides itself on its innovative instruction and curriculum, resulting in a close working relationship between students and faculty.

We offer two undergraduate majors, a Bachelor of Arts (AB) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics. Additionally, we offer minors in both Mathematics and Statistics. We do accept appropriate Advanced Placement credit.

We offer two Graduate programs:

• The Master of Science (MS) in Mathematics & Statistics program is now in its 15th year and has reached a stable size of around 90 students. As part of the MS program, undergraduates can apply for the Accelerated Masters Program in which they can obtain a MS degree with one additional year of school.
• The PhD Program in Applied Mathematics prepares students for careers in academia, industry, or government.

For those who are interested, we have an active Math Club and a colloquium series.

For students who are having difficulty with their lower level mathematics courses, we offer free tutoring, 6:00-9:00 PM, Sunday through Thursday, at our Math Assistance Center (MAC).
